I have always been an animal lover, and always had pets growing up. I worked as a vet technician for several years, and I enjoy caring for animals. I am always drawn to the ones that need the most help. I was talking with some workers at our home one day when a raccoon strolled up to the deck which brought up the subject of wildlife. He told me there was a wildlife rescue less than 5 miles from my home that always needed volunteers. I called the next day, and little did I know then that it was the beginning of new friendships with a wonderful group of women, and meeting people that would drive for hours to get an orphaned baby to you for help. The next baby season I was taking care of orphaned raccoons. I was asked to take in some orphaned opossums, and after some hesitation and research, I agreed. They became my favorite very quickly. They seem like the underdogs because they are so misunderstood. They are usually very tiny when they arrive, and need lots of help. Now that I am tube feeding, I can take in smaller ones, but without an incubator it is very difficult to get them warm enough, and hold their temperature. An incubator would help so much in getting them warm and rehydrated sooner.
