I've always loved being outside and watching wildlife but when my daughter called me saying her friends' cat had caught a baby squirrel and wanted to know if I would come save it that when my true love for squirrels started. This was a time before the internet and before there was a known list of rehabbers. I was the secretary at our local city animal shelter and tried saving everything that come through our doors. Cat, dog, possum, raccoon, it didn't matter. So, when my young daughter seen a helpless animal, she knew her mama would do everything possible to help it. I was lucky and the baby thrived and was later back out doing what squirrels love, playing in the trees. Fast forward and years later and many rescued pets the same daughter now grown with kids of her own gets a call about a baby squirrel. And the journey repeats itself, when she brings the baby to me. Now with my children all grown I decided to take the state exam and become a certified rehabber.
