I was raised in a family who taught me to have compassion for all living beings. Even as a young child, you could find me in a ditch looking for snakes, bugs, and other small creatures that hold so much importance in the world. After years of caring for LOTS of small animals, I then began fostering kittens with medical needs when I started high school. After a few years, I decided that I wanted to pursue a medical career and walked into the nearest veterinary clinic hoping to become a volunteer. However, this was at the beginning of the pandemic and the clinic was not taking any volunteers at the time. The next day, I found a Blue Jay fledgling in my backyard. I contacted South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation for advice. This is when I began my rehabbing journey! I was first trained with mammals, then I found myself gravitating towards songbirds and raptors. I’d spend my summers working with birds, learning beautiful life lessons from every single being that entered the center. Still to this day, I find myself learning a lesson every day from each animal that comes into All Things Wildlife Rehabilitation, especially the medical cases. Although this side of rehabilitation can be difficult, it’s also the most rewarding. If you’d ask me to tell you every single medical success story since the very beginning of my journey, I could recount them all in a heartbeat. Thanks to South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation and All Things Wild Rehabilitation, I spend my days fulfilled by what I know will be the rest of my life.
