For 10 years I worked in my county animal shelter helping domestic pets as part of my career. I saw a great need for better care but after several years the needs changed to include wild baby mammals as they were seen in the shelter a lot. Through my amazing domestic rescue community I was introduced to wildlife rehabilitation and my desire to help ALL animals spilled over from domestic pets to our native local wild neighbors. There really isn’t enough rehabbers actively taking in animals so I quickly got permitted and began taking orphan wildlife.
