I volunteer at my local animal shelter and was asked if I would be interested in learning how to rehabilitate wildlife starting with squirrels. I immediately said I was interested I was very excited at the prospect of helping local wildlife. Living in this area I know the value of helping what wildlife we have and was eager to do my part. This is my second year of being a category 1 rehabber with my mentor being an employee of the shelter and an experienced rehabilitator. The learning has been bittersweet of course: it's glorious to see my released squirrels thriving out in the wild and the sadness I feel at those I lose is with me. With each squirrel I find I learn something new and enjoy every minute of this journey. I am now so invested in helping our local squirrels I would love to work with extremely young babies, hence this application for an incubator. I am energized by all I am learning and truly look forward to helping even more animals well into the future.
