Johanna W.

$475 of $475 raised

As a young child, Johanna literally slept with her favorite book of all time, Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" in genuine hopes that she would enter the strange and wonderful world of silly monsters in the forest alongside "Max", its main human character. She was enchanted and frankly, obsessed, with the endless wonders of nature and that obsession has never left her. When Johanna and her young daughter moved to the country 16 years ago, they discovered there was a local Audubon Center with nature programs and live resident animals. They would visit often and attend many family friendly festivals and programs. Eventually, they came to learn about their rehabilitation program of injured and orphaned wildlife, and that they were looking for volunteers to feed the hundreds of babies that arrived each summer. For the first 5 of 10 years, Johanna, her mother and her daughter were all volunteering there - 3 generations! With her passion & skill level increasing exponentially over the years, Johanna went on to earn both her state and federal Wildlife Rehabilitator Licenses. To support her family and her "wild passions" she works private duty caring for elderly and disabled patients, in addition to attending Nursing School and working towards earning her degree as a Registered Nurse. Johanna says that she doesn't plan to ever stop caring for, advocating for and being fascinated by nature and its majestic inhabitants. Let's get her the incubator she needs to care for the fragile babies.
