Elise was raised in Alaska and has always had a very strong bond to nature. She has been involved in conservation issues her entire adult life, but rescuing wildlife was something she had dreamed of doing since she was in her teens. Her first baby bird was a Wilson's snipe. That little bird, though she was a serious learning curve for Elise, changed her life. Getting a bird ready for a 3000 mile migration, and in excellent condition was a challenge that woke Elise up to what birds really go through in their lives and what it takes to care for them so they can meet those challenges. From then on, she swore she would learn all she could about caring for the fragile but athletic shore, water, and song birds that grace our planet. Since Stripe the Snipe, Elise has rescued many songbirds, grebes and loons, shorebirds like long-billed curlews, and swans. She says, "some of our most intriguing and incredible birds are the smallest or the least well-known. Yes eagles are cool, but a tiny 10 gm Kinglet can survive -50 degree weather in the Arctic! I just love these extraordinary birds!" Elise has chosen this life because she believes that we need to care for and love the 2 legged, winged, and swimming neighbors that share this phenomenal planet with us. She is an outspoken advocate of any who suffer. Let's get her an incubator to help the most fragile animals in her care.
