Sherri M.

Sherri got into rehabbing by accident. She had a reputation for taking in unwanted puppies and kittens and then one day a man brought her a baby raccoon. He had planned to keep it as a pet, but the baby was dying and he no longer wanted it. Sherri jumped into action and sought help from local vets but no one would help her as it is against the law. She then contacted the game warden who also told her it was against the law but didn't have time to come and get it. He told Sherri to contact a rehabber group 75 miles away, and when they asked her to drive the baby to them, she did just that. When she handed the baby raccoon over, she was told it would probably be euthanized because they did not have enough rehabbers to care for them all and no one in her part of the state. Sherri asked what it took to become a rehabber and the rest is history. She now cares for raptors (owls, hawks, eagles, kestrel, etc) as well as rabies vector mammals (skunk and fox) and passerines (songbirds, ducks and pelicans). She's one of few that works with rabies mammals and large birds of prey. An incubator will be such a huge help in caring for the most fragile patients.
