Emily K.
When Emily started volunteering with a wildlife rescue, she initially started answering the "Hawkline" one day a week. The Hawkline is a number that people call when they have issues with or questions about wildlife. After getting comfortable with the Hawkline, she started going to the clinic that provides medical care for wild animals in need. At some point she became aware that one of their home rehabbers was caring for 18 animals in her home, so Emily asked if she could lighten her load at all and the offer was gratefully accepted. She went to the rehabber's home, saw all of the baby animals, and learned about the needs and routines of each animal. Emily returned home with two little baby squirrels that were only a few days old. They were still completely bald, with their eyes still closed, and needed to be fed every 3 hours, around the clock. After taking in those two, she started taking in any baby squirrels that needed her, and the rest is history!
