Shirley met an authorized rehabber when the Ministry of Natural Resources & Wildlife took over the handling of wildlife in Canada. She spent time with a few different rehabbers who were caring for raccoons and squirrels, learning everything she could. After that, Shirley wrote and passed her exams in order to do wildlife rehabilitation full time. She attended as many meetings and seminars as possible to round out her knowledge base, then hounded the husband to build some pens for her in the backyard. She hasn't looked back since! Animals have always been Shirley's passion. She says that it is truly a gift to be able to help animals and there is nothing that she would rather do.
