I was introduced to wildlife rehabilitation five years ago, when a five week old orphaned eastern gray squirrel approached me at work at my outdoor bartending job. While looking for help on the Internet, I was connected with my now mentor, who reached out on Facebook and guided me through giving that one squirrel and its siblings the help it needed. That one squirrel turned into hundreds more, and connected me with a community that would change my life.

From the day I was born I have felt a connection and a peacefulness around animals (something that I am sure many of my fellow animal lovers can relate to). I grew up an only child, and without other children around, I found myself befriending and admiring every animal I encountered. This almost spiritual connection to the animal world, carried me through many lonely and difficult times in the human one, and in involving myself in wildlife rehab, I found the bridge between the two.
Caring for these beautiful creatures, and connecting to other like-minded compassionate humans has awakened a calling and a purpose in me. I’m grateful for companies like this one for helping get people like me the tools to do the best work we possibly can.
