$435 of $599 raised

When we moved down here to South Carolina, our apartment was on the Marsh, and we had many raccoons and squirrels and possums all running around that I love to watch. The roof was being redone, and the workers found two baby raccoons that they did not know what to do with. One of our neighbors, knowing how much I cared for the wildlife, knew if anybody would figure it out, it would be me and I was handed to tiny little raccoons.
At that point, I researched and found Keeper of the wild, and contacted them. At first, we tried to reunite them with mom, but with everything going on with the construction, we do believe that mom was too afraid to come back.
Then the next thing I knew I was handed six baby squirrels from a neighbor who worked on air conditioning and on one of his sites he had to remove them from the ducks. Again, brought them to me because they figured I could do something about it.
Again, I reached out to Keeper of the wild, and met a rehab with a beautiful heart, and she showed me how rewarding rehabbing could actually be.
The next thing I knew I was attending classes to take care of baby squirrels, and I came home with four. The first year that I rehab, I overwintered 14 squirrels, and released them in the spring on the properties surrounding the Marsh. I probably did about 25 squirrels my first year and 20 the second year.
At this time, I overwintered two squirrels, one squirrel cannot be released due to injuries of her back legs. I just received five babies approximately three weeks old, and are just old enough to move to a larger cage to start moving around. With the baby season just starting I’m sure I will have more, along with the season again in the fall. I could definitely use an incubator when they are tiny being that it is crucial to keep them warm and safe.
