As a teenager, Courtney's boyfriend at the time hit a opossum in the road. Upon turning around they found she had babies with her and at the time not knowing what to do, they left them. Courtney researched where she would take them had she picked them up and found a local wildlife center with a website that stated, "Looking for volunteers!". She immediately applied and volunteered there for several years, gaining plenty of experience and guidance before becoming a home-based volunteer focused on caring for raccoons. 11 years later, Courtney is still caring for wildlife. Her outdoor caging has been built and her licensing is in its final steps. An incubator will be a huge help in saving fragile babies.
