Deborah has taken care of animals all her life. Even as she traveled the world for her husband's Air Force career, she fostered and cared for native species, then applied for her permit in 2003 when her son found an orphaned baby squirrel during hurricane Irene. She has been caring for animals ever since - squirrels, reptiles, but mostly orphaned baby raccoons, 75 or so every year. Her husband, now home from Iraq, helps out with the babies too, and jokes that Deborah isn't allowed to retire from her paying job because baby formula is so expensive. Is it ever!
