Like many, I was raised with dogs, but it was my love of birds that got me started. I fell in love with birds at the age of 3. I was told if I saved up and took care of one, I could have it. I worked for an allowance. At the age of 5 I broke my femur. My parents covered the difference and I got an Amazon. Then we moved out to the country, and through my teens injured and baby wildlife would find us.
As an adult, I went off to college then pursued a career in academia. I left in 2007 and moved back out to the country where everything from prairie dogs to horse found me. In 2015 I decided to make my work with parrots official, forming a non-profit. As the bird man, it was only obvious for everyone finding an injured bird or displaced baby to call me. I built giant avairies and dedicated the home to animal care.
In 2021, we moved to Arkansas to eliminate debt and focus on rescue and sanctuary. The property is 15.2 acres with a pond. I built two more aviaries here--one is 1300 sq ft. the other is 220 sq ft. The big aviary is perfect for rehabbing squirrels and birds who need to build strength flying. The small bird aviary segments have become handy for raising baby squirrels and opossums. My office doubles as a clinic and nursery. Again animals gravitated to me. It was here I found a licensed rehabbers to properly train me for mammals and birds so I can be part of a team.
