My best friend, Joshua, was a rehabber for Wild at Heart when we became friends. I quickly became involved with as an "outsider looking in". I was able to watch feedings, enclosure cleanings, critter pick ups, and initial assessments. I was also often the "camera man" to document the rehab process. I asked A LOT of questions, which I'm sure Joshua got quickly tired of! I even started researching orphaned squirrel care on my own because they quickly found a soft spot in my heart. Joshua quickly saw my interest and love for these animals and offered to get me all trained up and permitted to be a rehabber on their team. I was absolutely hesitant at first and spent many hours, if not days, researching and gathering all the supplies I thought I would need. My first intake was a 3-4 week old gray squirrel that was successfully released after a few months of my rehab efforts, including building a HUGE pre-release enclosure in my own backyard! The intakes haven't stopped since that day!
