I grew up in a large Midwestern farm family, and we were always bringing home bunny rabbits, little skunks, squirrels, stray dogs and cats. We lived near a fairly busy road where people would sometimes dump out their unwanted pets. I never had a baby raccoon though until my daughter saw a newspaper article and convinced me to apply to be a rehabilitator - and even though I am not a big operation and I do it out of my house, I am able to have a large habitat for my babies. The only difficulty I really have is I like to help tiny newborns - but I don't have an incubator. I have tried building my own incubator but it only lasts one season and then by the time baby season is over it is beat up and I have to start all over.
