Lawrence was born in Canada and moved here when he met his wife. Seeing and feeling her love for all living things, Lawrence knew that their mission was to care for as many babies as they could. His wife started rehabbing many years ago and there were times when she was overwhelmed. Lawrence started helping when he saw how tired she was, and how she was only able to take short naps in between feeding tiny babies. She needed help, and since Lawrence shared her love for the animals, he jumped in. He admits that he was awkward at first but with his wife's guidance and knowledge, he soon caught on. Lawrence says that the best feeling is to take an animals in as a tiny helpless infant, care for it, and see it raised and released back into his or her natural habitat. He adds, "I enjoy singing and sometimes find myself singing to the babies. Now I am sure you are laughing at the thought of a grown man singing to animals but I believe it does soothe them. At least they are a captive audience." Last year they took in over 600 animals and this year they'll likely exceed that. Although his wife has an incubator, it is almost always full. With so many babies in their care, this incubator for Lawrence will mean fewer times when they have to decide which babies get the most reliable heat and the best chance of survival.
