For me, it started with a fawn. I was known as someone who would take in farm animals, so one day a person brought me a fawn. I immediately started researching and discovered that there were places called wildlife rehabilitation centres; the nearest one to me that admits fawns is 250 km away. I arranged to transfer the fawn to the experienced rehabber, but my eyes were open to the possibility of doing this work. I already had a 10 acre farm, so started working on the requirements and got vaccinated against rabies. The next animals I took in were squirrels, then raccoons, then a porcupette, ... Each time I fell in love and enjoyed all the fascinating learning. I've taken in coyote pups, foxes, bats, otters, beavers, muskrats, groundhogs, ... and fawns. My little centre on a dedicated section of my property is now run by an amazing team of volunteers, admits about 500 animals a year, and answers hundreds of calls from the public.
