How has your first Baby Warm incubator helped you?
The Baby Warm makes it possible to give better care with thermostat controlled temperature for each species – so much better than a box on a heating pad, which was my only choice for providing warmth before. I don't have to worry if the heat is too little, or too much from an unregulated source such as a heating pad and it has much better ventilation. And so much easier to clean!
Baby squirrels can be messy! It allows a good view for visual check of the babies without disturbing them, by simply pulling back a curtain you can attach on the outside. It helped tremendously with a couple of litters in particular that were very cold when we received them. Bringing them up to correct temperature safely surely saved them, since they were hardly moving.
How will this additional incubator help?
Most of my squirrels come from where my husband works, from cut trees with nests, or clean up of storm damage with limbs down that took nests with them. Often they are found early in the day with no way to keep them warm, other than a towel in a cardboard box and the truck's heater. Or carrying them in a shirt pocket for the rest of the day – which is not feasible for 2-4 squirrels. With a Baby Warm To Go they could be snug in the incubator in the truck for the remainder of the work day. There's also the babies people have found and call to us to pick up, which are usually cold, because the person either didn't know to keep warm, or had no way to keep warm. They're often wrapped in a towel, but of course don't have enough body heat to stay warm, even when wrapped up, so they are cold when picked up, and every minute counts getting babies warmed, especially the tiny ones.
