How has your first Baby Warm incubator helped you?
Before an incubator I was using heating pads. Heating pads work but I was always wondering what if it got unplugged accidentally or it wasn't producing enough heat or just stopped working all together. Having the Baby Warm incubator gave me peace of mind knowing the animals would be safe and warm. It also helps me with regulating temperature more accurately opposed to the heating pad which typically only has settings of high and low. Being able to set the temperature to what is appropriate for the species and age is very helpful. The baby eastern cottontails I took in were very thankful I had a Baby Warm incubator!
How will this additional incubator help?
Having this "to go" incubator will help in 2 big ways. First, picking up an animal from a finder or transporting a small animal and being able to give immediate warmth and protection. I use "hot hands" packs currently but an incubator will be able to offer more precise temps and a safe way to transport until I can get to my facility or the person I am transporting to. Second, I have decided to focus on bats as my species to rehab and this would be the perfect size for a bat! It would help in transport but I could also set it up at my in-home facility. It would especially come in handy for bats that are healing from wing tears that need to be kept in warmer temperatures in order to heal. I would be able to keep them in the incubator and monitor the humidity in there.
