Shannon D.

$599 of $599 raised

Shannon has always had a interest and love for all animals her entire life. As a child, if she found any animal hurt or abandoned she would bring it home (sometimes sneak it home) and would do her best to help it. She always wanted to be a veterinarian but life went another direction and instead she got married, had children, became a stay at home mom, and has been ever since. Now that Shannon's children are getting older, she has had more time to focus on her passion for wildlife. The summer of 2017 she was asked by a friend if she could help an orphaned baby raccoon. Not knowing at the time that it’s illegal to do so if you're not certified or licensed, she said of course! She read up on all she could find about raccoons and raised the baby for about 3 months. She was fortunate to meet a some awesome wildlife rehabbers and they let her know it was illegal for her to have the raccoon. They took over the care of the little one, gave Shannon info about wildlife rehabilitation classes, and she has been rehabbing ever since!
