I was introduced to wildlife rehabilitation when I was five years old because my dad became the director of a local wildlife rehabilitation center. Because my parents were divorced and we commuted to work and school, I would go to work with him a few hours a day after school. At first I would just clean dishes or clean empty cages, but as I grew older and more able, I was able to work my way up as a youth volunteer. I went from cleaning empty cages, to feeding baby birds and mammals, to training new volunteers and performing examinations on new patients. When I turned 18 I was able to gain my provisional wildlife rehabilitation license and then I received my full license after a year of training. In April of 2016 I then founded my own nonprofit called Northern Colorado Wildlife Center. Now that we have established ourselves, we provide wildlife rescue services, wildlife rehabilitation services, habitat improvement services, and environmental education programs.
